Tuna Tataki

Equipment

  • 1 fry pan (skillet)
  • 1 small bowl
  • 1 medium shallow bowl

Ingredients

For the Tuna

  • 250 gram tuna fillet
  • 2 tbsp sesame seeds
  • 1 tbsp peanut oil

For the Dressing

  • 2 tbsp ponzu sauce
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 2 tbsp mirin
  • ½ tsp ginger grated
  • ½ tsp garlic minced

Garnish

  • 2 tbsp shallots (scallions/ green onions)
  • 1 tbsp fried shallots optional

Instructions

  • Combine ponzu, sesame oil, mirin, ginger and garlic in a small bowl and stir to combine.
  • Pat dry the Tuna with a paper towel and then pour sesame seeds into a shallow bowl.
  • Press Tuna into the sesame seeds until coated all over.
  • Heat peanut oil in the fry pan over medium/ high heat, then add the Tuna and quickly sear for about 30 seconds on each side.
  • Once seared remove from the pan to a chopping board and allow to cool for a couple of minutes before slicing.
  • Once sliced arrange slices fanned out on a platter, then drizzle over the dressing and garnish with green onions and shallots.
  • Serve immediately.
