This is not a traditional Mexican Shredded Beef recipe that requires marination, searing and then up to 8 hours slow cooking. We literally throw everything into a baking dish cover with foil and let the oven do all the work by slow cooking it for three hours. So although it’s a long cook its a very hands off cook, leaving you free to sip some delicious Mexican beverages while you wait. We recommend the classic Margarita or the refreshing Chelada.

Mexican Shredded Beef
Equipment
- Baking dish
Ingredients
- 2 tsp smoked paprika
- 2 tsp ground cumin
- 2 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp sea salt flake
- ½ cup water
- ½ onion finely diced
- 1 jalapeno deseeded and finely sliced
- ½ cup cherry tomatoes quartered
- 750 grams chuck steak
- 1 tbsp coriander leaves for garnish
Instructions
- Pre heat a fan forced oven to 160℃
- Combine smoked paprika, cumin, oregano, salt and water in the baking dish and stir to combine well.
- Next add the jalapeno, diced onion and cherry tomatoes and mix together.
- Place chuck steak on top of the mixture then drizzle some of the mixture on top of the steak to coat.
- Cover baking dish tightly with foil and bake for 3 hours.
- After 3 hours remove beef from the oven and shred the meat using two forks.
- Turn the oven up to 200℃ then return the beef uncovered and cook for 15 minutes.
- Serve beef on a platter sprinkled with coriander leaves.
